Question: I read your column last Sunday where you said home values will probably fall another 5 percent to 10 percent next year. That’s bad news to us since our home value is already less than our total mortgage balance. We bought our home two years ago with a zero-down loan.

Barclays has launched a one-year fixed rate mortgage at below 4% as the cost of wholesale funding continues to fall. The group, which lends under the Woolwich brand, is offering a one-year fixed rate deal of 3.99%, after which borrowers will switch to a lifetime tracker of 1.99% above the base rate.
